VARD's Multi-Purpose Robotic Vessels: Revolutionizing Ocean Infinity's Operations (2026)

VARD, a Norwegian subsidiary of the Fincantieri Group, has secured a substantial contract worth over EUR 200 million to build four cutting-edge Multi-Purpose Robotic Vessels (MPVs) for Ocean Infinity. This significant deal solidifies the long-standing partnership between the two companies, with VARD leveraging its expertise in robotic and unmanned maritime operations. The MPVs are designed to be versatile, capable of supporting a broad spectrum of offshore activities, including both remotely operated and autonomous missions.

The contract encompasses a comprehensive suite of services from various VARD group companies. Vard Electro will provide the advanced SeaQ systems, enabling seamless remote operations. Vard Interiors will focus on interior design and engineering, integrating innovative solutions with energy-efficient systems to ensure crew comfort and operational efficiency. Additionally, Seaonics will supply the Launch and Recovery System (LARS), enhancing the handling of Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) and geotechnical equipment.

Construction of the vessels will take place across two locations. Two of the MPVs will be built at VARD's Norwegian shipyards, with deliveries scheduled for the first and second quarters of 2028. The remaining two vessels will be constructed at Vard Vung Tau in Vietnam, with expected deliveries in the third and fourth quarters of the same year.

This contract marks a significant milestone in the maritime industry's transition to unmanned vessels. Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and General Manager of Fincantieri, emphasized the company's ability to provide pioneering solutions for the robotization of the maritime sector. He stated, 'Our global production network and technological leadership enable us to support world-class partners like Ocean Infinity, reinforcing Fincantieri's position as a leading partner for groundbreaking innovation and operational excellence.'

The collaboration between VARD and Ocean Infinity not only showcases the companies' technical prowess but also highlights their commitment to driving the maritime industry forward, embracing the challenges and opportunities presented by the era of unmanned vessels.
