Kojo Barnni's Triumphant 2025 Goldfields Damang Open Golf Tournament: A Story of Skill and Strategy
The 2025 Goldfields Damang Open Golf Tournament witnessed the rise of a new champion, Kojo Barnni, who captivated the audience with his exceptional skills and strategic gameplay. Barnni's journey to victory began on a challenging course, where he showcased his prowess and secured the top spot.
On November 14, at the Damang Golf Course in the Western Region, Barnni's performance was nothing short of remarkable. He took the lead on the second day of the competition, displaying a mastery of the game on his favorite course, which many golfers found demanding. Barnni's consistent scores of 71 on the first two days set the stage for an intense final round.
As the tournament progressed, Barnni's determination and skill were on full display. He navigated the course with precision, finishing the third and final day with scores of 72 and 70, respectively. Despite fierce competition from the likes of Francis Torgah and Maxwell Osei Bonsu, Barnni's courage and expertise prevailed, earning him the coveted trophy and a prize of GH₵60,000.
In an exclusive interview, Barnni, a seasoned golfer with three previous Damang tournament wins, attributed his success to wise gameplay on a thick course. He acknowledged the challenges but remained composed, showcasing his mental fortitude.
The tournament also featured a diverse range of winners in various categories. Lucky Ayisah, an Achimota golfer, secured second place and a prize of GH₵35,000, while Maxwell Owusu Bonsu and Vincent Cofie, both from the Royal Golf Club and Achimota, tied for third place, sharing GH₵34,000. The seniors category was dominated by veteran Emos Koblah, who played a stellar 219 over three days, earning him GH₵30,000, followed by E. K Osei and Anthony Gbenyo.
A significant milestone was achieved in the tournament's history as professional ladies competed for the first time. The ladies' segment, held over four days, saw Senegalese Oumy Diaye emerge victorious, followed by South African M. Zethu and Ivorian Vivian Kouame, who received cash prizes of GH₵25,000, GH₵17,000, and GH₵13,000, respectively.
The event was made possible through the efforts of numerous individuals and organizations. Vice President of the PGA Ghana, Alhaji Ahmed Padori, expressed gratitude to the course managers, media, and sponsors, including Goldfields Ghana and Ibrahim Mahama's Engineers and Planners. Hans De Beer, President of the PGA, urged golfers to continue competing to nurture future talents, drawing inspiration from the legendary Tiger Woods.
Sampson Arthur, Gold Fields Ghana's Operations Manager, emphasized the company's commitment to the PGA, looking forward to deeper collaborations. Lady Captain Felicity Geabour called for support for female professional golfers, and pupils from Abosso Methodist JHS attended the tournament, gaining insights into the sport.
