Azamara's overnight offerings include open-air Jeep tours of Ho Chi Minh City and flamenco nights in Seville, Spain. It's all about creating unforgettable memories and providing a slower-paced touring experience.
And Azamara isn't alone in this venture. Other cruise lines, like Regent Seven Seas and Holland America, are also expanding their overnight options. Regent Seven Seas, for example, has introduced Immersive Overnight cruises, offering an overnight stay at every stop. This allows guests to truly immerse themselves in the local culture and enjoy the nightlife.
"The itineraries are popular because they offer an alternative way to see the world," says Wesley D'Silva, Chief Commercial Officer of Regent Seven Seas. "We're creating unique evening shore excursions, like a Kaiseki-style dinner with a geisha performance in Japan, or spine-chilling stories with a night watchman in Germany."
Holland America Line has also noticed a shift in guest preferences, with an increasing demand for longer port stays. "Guests are seeking meaningful experiences and less-traveled destinations," says Paul Grigsby, Vice President of Itinerary Planning and Deployment at Holland America. "By staying longer, they can enjoy local festivals, go on multi-day adventures, and connect with local cultures through food and music."
So, where can you find these overnight stops? Well, it depends on the cruise line and the itinerary. Seven-night cruises often feature overnights, especially in destinations like Europe, where river cruises offer plenty of opportunities for evening exploration. Longer itineraries and Legendary Voyages also tend to include more overnight stays.
