In a remarkable archaeological discovery, Egypt has unveiled the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria, a 2,000-year-old marvel that has been buried beneath the sea for centuries. The PHAROS project, led by French and Egyptian institutions, aims to document, scan, and digitally reconstruct the lighthouse using both recovered blocks and fragments mapped beneath the Mediterranean. The excavation has already recovered twenty-two massive blocks, some weighing over 70 tonnes, including monumental door lintels, jambs, a threshold, and large base slabs. Among the finds is a previously unknown pylon with an Egyptian-style doorway dating to the Hellenistic period. The scale of the stones gives a sense of the lighthouse's original mass. But the controversy doesn't stop there... The digital reconstruction aims to rebuild Pharos virtually, allowing viewers to explore a detailed reconstruction of the lighthouse without rebuilding it physically.
